High-Resolution, High-Speed Analog-to-Digital Converter (GSADU)


In recent times the broadband communication sector, high accurate radar systems and instrumentation applications are advancing at an incredible pace. Systems such as 5G & 6G mobile infrastructure and direct conversion radar systems e.g. in the field of self-driving automobiles are facing exponential increase in demand. These systems require Analog-to-digital converters (ADCs) with the highest possible performance in terms of linearity (SFDR, >70 dB) and noise (SNR, 60dB) across the entire Nyquist bandwidth. These challenges can only be tackled by innovative design approaches with a mix of high performance analog circuit design in combination with digital calibration techniques to overcome the performance gaps of analog circuits and still achieve robustly 12 bit linearity.


In this project the chair of mixed-signal design will develop a 12 bit, highly linear 8 GS/s time-interleaved SAR ADC. This includes the frontend buffer structure and SAR core as well as the required reference generation.
